Meet the Founders

Dr. Carvalho, MSc., PhD, at the Center for Neurosciences and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra, Portugal, has been studying the underlying mechanisms that are at the origin of insulin resistance and diabetes and related complications, for over 25 years. More recently, she has been interested in expanding her research out into the community with the aim of implementing health literacy tools to prevent non-communicable diseases, particularly diabetes across the lifespan.

Rayan Rehayel is a second-year medical student at Beirut Arab University (BAU) with a strong interest in preventive medicine, research, medical education, and community health. She has maintained a 4.0 academic record throughout her university studies and is ranked among the top students in her medical school cohort. Her academic achievements have also received international recognition, including the Cambridge IGCSE “Best Across Eight” Award, placing second nationwide in Kuwait, and a Pearson High Achiever Commendation.

Joana Rehayel is a third-year medical student at Beirut Arab University with a 3.87 cumulative GPA, consistently ranking among the top students in her cohort. Her academic achievements include Faculty of Medicine Ranking Awards and the Highest Mark in the World in Pearson Edexcel AS Mathematics, where she achieved a perfect 300/300 UMS.
